We use the present simple for things that happen repeatedly and for things in general. 

Useful   expressions:
-   every
(day, morning,Monday,   week,

   month, year etc.)
-   all the time
-   always
-   often
-   usually / normally
-   sometimes
-   never
We use the present continuous for action that is   not finished and for something   what is happening at or around the time of speaking.

Useful   expressions:
-   now
-   at the moment
-   today
-   tonight
-   this
(day,   morning, Monday,week, month, year etc.)
